A Warm Post

One of the things I wanted to do with this blog was to call attention to things and events that might help change the world, if even just a little bit. I looked at the debut articles so far and noted that every one of them has such a serious and almost ominous tone. This is not really a true picture of the world in my eyes, and I am sure that as much good goes on as bad does in our every day lives. So, the “unplugged” topic for today is going to be affection.
Every one of us knows this word and has felt the touch of it at some time or other (hopefully for you - often). Without getting all fuzzy and warm (well maybe just a little) I am thinking that we could all do with more kindness in our lives. Google may want your soul and our corporations may have gone bananas, but the average person – you and me – just hang here and provide the fabric that binds the world together still. I was checking out some Reuters articles looking for something to treat you guys to when I ran across a heart warming tid-bit . Even the tough writers at Reuters have time for a tender moment now and then – so who am I right? This particular text and image is about and Orangutan and her new baby born in a Netherlands zoo back in July. The image is priceless and we should identify with it.
So, the thought for today should perhaps be to simply exhibit warm feelings whether it is to a child, to the aggravating neighbor next door (who may just need a hug) or even to one’s Jade Dream entwined with them in a sultry Bachata – try reaching beyond the emboldened events that surround us. Affection and good feelings are actually the only way to overcome all the great and small tragedies of life here on Earth. It is my sincere hope that everyone reading this will take the weekend to give something free that provides the greatest ROI on the planet. Hell, just hug a stranger if you have to – just spread some good affection – it may be catching.

Hug! One from me, and you are not a stranger. And all my love, a prayer and that jade dream you talk about… may God give it to you, when you are ready for it.
You mention a sultry bachata… as a bachata dancer myself, one observation: there is nothing sultry about it. It appears to be, at the first sight, but it is not. You see, at least for me, these dances are little pagan prayers, they do have something primordial in every move, like incantations to Aphrodite. Yeah, we can mix cultures here. The whole world is a mix. No wonder it goes bananas.
I think what you do here is wonderful, precious and it does show your heart.
Always,
Mig
Aww! A great big hug back MIG - I know you too, and I have found that great Jade Dream I spoke of. So, you see those little prayers of yours were answered.
Always,
Phil
I stand corrected also - you are of course always right.
An excellent post, Phil. We tend to dismiss the world’s problems by saying “there is nothing I can do about this” so do nothing at all- not even in our own back yard.
Some aspects from my Catholic upbringing have stuck with me, one of these being ‘love thy neighbor’. We can’t feel affection towards everyone but we can show compassion and understanding and ‘treat everyone as we would like to be treated ourselves’ (there’s another one that stuck).
As individuals we may not be able to do much but masses of individual efforts can make a difference.
I loved reading this message until I reached the last line where you say ‘hell, just hug a stranger if you have to’ and burst out laughing… the reason: One of my best friends was walking in down town area of my state yesterday and some stranger at random came to her and gave her a big hug, almost held her tightly when she tried to push him away ‘coz she felt there was something wrong in doing this… only when she got home she realized her wallet was gone - had close to fifty dollars in it
